Training in Industry Programmes
Many large and medium industrial and commercial organisations provide organised training for their employees. The type of training varies according to the organisation and its needs. This training may be of the informal teaching type, or it may be an organised instructional programme conducted within the plant under the supervision of the personnel department or a special education and training division. As a general rule, training is confined to the acquisition of entrepreneurship education and skills necessary to increase productivity in the business concerned. Some programmes provide related information and some instruction of a general education nature. Some programmes are designed to train and retrain employees in specific areas of business. These programmes include apprenticeship and pre-service job training, on-the-job training and supervisory training. A good proportion of the present workforce is trained as skilled workers, operators and technicians through the industry-training system. Though its scope and application is limited, this training system can provide much needed vocational knowledge and skills beyond the normal institutional system of entrepreneurship education and training.
